We at Men’s File were shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of one of London’s most influential street-stylists, Jason Buckham. Along with his brother Matthew the two were pioneers in just about every significant progression in a certain area of men’s style in London and other world cities that might be described as, ‘underground casual workwear and sportswear’ from the early 1990s to the present day. Like most subcultural stylists, Jason’s realm was small, covert and exclusive but his reach was global. What Jason wore today, others picked-up on two years later. However, fashion was not his only interest and his career was varied. In the 1990s he and Matthew worked in the model industry appearing in many of the world’s leading menswear publications and Jason went on to appear in several movies including Guy Richie’s Snatch (2000). Later he toured extensively as the official DJ on many of Kylie Minogue’s tours and in recent years built up his own Instagram-based brand called @rugged216 selling vintage, up-cycled and new rugged-wear. This has now been taken over by his brother. The loss of Jason Buckam is a loss to men’s style.
