Tim Scott: Photographer

Best seats in the house – Hot Rod Reunion, Famoso Raceway, Bakersfield, CA, 2013

When Pomona resident Tim Scott told us ‘I wasn’t born into the hot-rodding world’ we imagined a newcomer who had recently stumbled on the scene and cynically recognised its visual potential. We all wondered at this, as he seemed to be intimate with elements of the So Cal rodding fraternity and more importantly, the cars themselves. In fact, Tim’s connection with old cars and bikes goes back to the 2006, when he moved from New York City to Oregon, and when a person suggests that 14+ years in a scene as being ‘new to it’, you know you are dealing with a dedicated enthusiast. Tim ran a 1952 Chevy pick-up, a ’71 FLH and a ’72 Iron-head, which he sold to fund a wedding and the down payment of a historic craftsman house in Pomona CA. His current project, a 1951 For F1, keeps him planted in the hot rod scene. Combine this with the psychogeography of his hometown (think the Pomona Raceway), act as a passport into this closed realm. After years of working in the world of advertising and design on the famed Madison Avenue, the photographer and creative director has a knack of using high-level commercial photography techniques to capture subcultural phenomena and that combination makes for outstanding images.

STOP PRESS! Tim Scott is now selling art prints of his work on his website.
